We see patients in our clinic for a range of gynecologic concerns, such as heavy or painful periods, postmenopausal bleeding, infertility, urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. Patients must be referred by another health care provider. The referral is scheduled based on urgency. We encourage patients to keep working with their health care providers while they await their consultation.
Some gynecologic concerns are treated medically, while others may require surgery. Sometimes additional tests are required to help determine the best treatment option.
If a patient is going to have surgery, this most often occurs at the Whitehorse General Hospital. Sometimes we recommend referring patients to another physician out of territory for their surgery; this may either be to someone with different expertise than we have locally, or who works in a bigger hospital with more resources.
We provide emergent gynecologic consultation to patients at Whitehorse General Hospital as well as emergency advice to providers at community health centres.
